Soil Type: Elder will grow well in any soil type and will tolerate wet and dry conditions.

Elder is a very useful culinary plant, the flowers and the fruits can be used for a multitude of purposes from cordial, wine, flavourings, jams and chutneys.

Elder can be planted as a small tree or in a mixed hedge with Hawthorn where it will provide a valuable food source for many wildlife species. Bees in particular love the nectar rich flowers.
