BluebellsSpring Bulbs

The bulbs are available now in the Garden Centre. October and November are the ideal months for planting your spring bulbs such as daffodils, crocus, tulips and snowdrops. See our page how-to-plant-spring-bulbs for more information.

We buy direct from Spalding growers to give you the best quality and value.

Fruit

From now to December is a good time for planting fruit bushes and trees. We have apples, pears, plums, fruiting cherry plus soft fruit. This year’s production is just ready from the nurseries. We have grafted some old apple varieties this year which are suitable for this area. You cannot buy a lot of these apples in the supermarket!

Jobs to do this month

  • Cut back herbaceous perennials that have come to the end of flowering e.g. Lupin, Delphinium etc & generally clean up.
  • Now is a good time to move, divide and transplant perennials and small shrubs to new positions.
  • Start pruning back roses, prune out diseased & dead growth & just reduce the height where necessary to avoid winter wind rock.
  • Vegetables – Clean all brown leaves of brassicas (cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts etc). Hoe round and remove all finished crops of peas, beans etc to the compost heap.
  • Aerate lawns for the winter, I favour the garden fork pushed in & lightly lifted method.
